The influence of Enlightenment thought In the works of Nicolas Poussin

Abstract

This study deals with the introduction of Nicolas Poussin's early upbringing in Villers, as well as his life in Paris and also in Rome, as well as his learning at the hands of Quentin Varin, and also his contribution to the establishment of the French Academy of Arts. Also defining the concept of (Poussinistes) and its relationship to the Enlightenment movement and its influence on the artists of the French Academy during the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. The study also deals with the beginnings of the French Renaissance, France assuming leadership of the artistic movement, and the establishment of the French Academy of Plastic Arts in 1648 AD. The study also shows some points of difference between the Poussinistes trend and the Rubenistes trend.
